Character dining at Topolino’s Terrace

Breakfast with a view and flavors of the Riviera

Disney provides many magical experiences that are unique to a Disney vacation. One of my favorites of those is character dining. This is a fun and relaxing way to see some of your favorite characters up close without standing in line. I typically recommend at least one character dining experience reservation for my clients on their Disney vacation.

One of my favorite locations for character dining is at Topolino’s Terrace, located on the top floor of Disney’s Riviera Resort. Riviera opened in December 2019 making it the newest Disney resort on property. It is a beautiful property inspired by Walt Disney’s travels in the European Riviera. Fun fact: Topolino is Italian for Mickey Mouse! Being on the top floor, you’ll also be able to step out onto the terrace and take in the views of the property, water, and Skyliner transportation system.

As you enter you’ll probably spot a few hidden Mickey’s. Reservations are highly recommended for this experience due to the limited seating capacity and high popularity. While I waited for our table, I enjoyed an Espresso Martini at the bar and it was incredibly delicious! The bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. Because this is a Deluxe category resort and a premier dining location, you’ll find the level of customer service is exceptional.

The food at Topolino’s Terrace

Many character dining experiences are buffet, but character dining at Topolino’s Terrace has a menu you’ll order individual entrees from. You will receive breakfast pastries for the table included with your order. (My son thought the chocolate chip muffins were yummy!) I’ve been fortunate enough to eat here twice now for breakfast — character dining is only available at breakfast — and everything we’ve ordered was delicious. Topolino’s Terrace is also open for dinner, but does not include characters and it is considered a Signature dining experience which means you’ll receive incredible food and service, and you should plan to dress a little bit nicer than just your park-going attire.

Pictured below are a few of the entrees we ordered:

  • Expresso Martini

  • Complimentary breakfast pastries (photographed with Mimosa)

  • Kid’s artist palette Mickey Waffles (served with 3 dipping sauces, fruit, and bacon)

  • Quiche Gruyère (served with dressed greens and potatoes)

  • Sour Cream Waffle (the orange-maple syrup is to die for!)

  • Smoked Salmon (served with everything bagel)

  • Plant based omelette

The characters at Topolino’s Terrace

Yes, I’m a foodie, so I had to talk about the food first — but, I realize you all came to this post more for the characters! You’ll find Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy at Topolino’s character breakfast. The thing that makes this experience different than others with these classic characters is their attire — they all have an artistic flair! Minnie is an aspiring writer and you’ll see her wearing a dress inspired by words and poems. Mickey is a painter and is using Minnie as his muse to paint the perfect portrait. Donald is studying sculptures at the art school. Daisy is studying dance and you’ll find her wearing a ballerina’s tutu. The characters make several rounds throughout the dining room (currently still from a safe distance due to Disney’s precautionary pandemic protocol) and even have an original song they clap and dance to.

Since the characters don’t visit your table up-close, you’ll leave with an adorable postcard-sized parting gift with the autographs of all 4 characters and an artistic drawing as a memorable keepsake!

Between the beautiful restaurant and view, delicious food and beverages, adorable costumes and fun characters, this is one of my favorite Walt Disney World character dining experiences.
